Fergie's FringeWorld Tractor Challenge |
|
On Tuesday 18th May 2004, Lachie plans to set off from Bowling on a World record breaking drive around the coastline of Scotland on the same Ferguson tractor. The journey of approximately 3500 miles will take 5 weeks, which includes two days at The Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh where the tractor will be on the stand of Marshall Trailers (Aberdeen), long time supporters of the Charity.
The route is clockwise round the 'ragged fringe' with the first overnight stop being in Dunoon. Then onto Lochgilphead, Campbeltown, Crinan and then Oban on Saturday 22nd May. The coastline not only northwards but also westwards to Ardnamurchan Point, east to John O'Groats and south to the Scottish/English border which will be followed as closely as possible to the Solway Firth where Dumfries is a stopping point on 15th May. The southern tip of Scotland at the Mull of Galloway will also be visited before the journey northwards and back to Bowling arriving on Saturday 19th June. On Monday 21st June Lachie will set off again this time his journey will be inland taking him along the southern shore of Loch Lomond, then north east to Ballinluing in Perthshire. The principle reason for the drive is to raise awareness of the ongoing situation facing thousands of poor, very poor people in Romania and to raise funds. The challenge to the World Record for the longest tractor journey in the World , currently 3176 miles is a 'spin off.' En route Lachie plans to give slide presentations at various overnight stopping points on the route and these will be advertised locally. Anyone wish to lend support can contact Lachie via this website and also by telephone.
